UNS and Signals in Space (RP description)

This forum contains guides on the Scan system, it's limitations, what to expect when scanning, and what parts are incomplete.
There are also discussions on the different sites found by scanning, and basics on what they contain.
This system is still very new.

UNS and Signals in Space (RP description)

Background, RP, and basic data to make sense of details used in the Exploration Systems. (WIP)
[NOTE: this is my descriptions and explanations of server systems]

Solar Systems in the EvE Universe are connected using a Universal Space Network (UNS).
The UNS is used to keep track of the happenings in their System and share data with other Systems. The most basic use is the "Local Chat" channel, with the (incomplete) Aggression system being second.
All objects in a System are scanned, tracked, and reported to the USN as a "Signal".
Some signals sent by UNS are considered "Global", meaning they can be "seen" from anywhere in the Solar System. Global Entities are sun, planet, moon, station, belt, gate, customs offices and Sov Structures. (may be a few more i forgot about)
also note: any signal registering in the scanners will also show in the solar system map.
these can be filtered for specific searches.

All ships have basic scanning equipment, which will scan for signals within your ship's current bubble, called your "Local area" or 'Grid", which has a radius of 300km from it's center.
Your ship will show the globals from UNS and your local area data on your overview.
These can be asteroids, other ships (players, pirates, or civilians), or even cargo containers (jetcans)

Another set of scanners on ships gather data for directional scanning.
this scanner that is used to discover (but not pinpoint, locate, or warp to) some non-global objects up to 14AU from your current position. More on this later.

The UNS also sends data on non-global signals that are not shown on the overview.
These signals can be viewed using your ship's scanning system and are classed into 3 groups....signal, anomaly, and signature.
As mentioned above, all objects are a "Signal".
The relative tracking of the object is reported in the scanning system as the "Signal Strength".

signals that are easy enough to be detected and tracked to 100% by the UNS or scanned to 100% by your ships scanning system are considered an "Anomaly". (details below)
weaker signals that need specialized scanning probes, and the skills to use them, (plus a lot of patience) are considered a "Signature". (details below)

For all signals, the type is identified at 25% scan and the name is revealed at 75% scan.
To warp to a signal, the object must be tracked to 100% for the warp computer to lock on to.
Any signal with a strength less than 100% isnt tracked well enough to lock on and warp to
Some Signatures can only be scanned to 75%, 50% or 25%. (details below)
